大麻草の強い生命力は魂の象徴と言われ、その繊維は穢れを祓う力をもった「神霊の宿る」布として、神官の衣服、お祓の幣、ご神域と現世とを隔てる境界線である注連縄など、神事において大麻布でなければならないとされてきました。お祓いに使われた麻が配られたことから「神宮大麻」と呼ばれ、天照大神のお神札として敬い、お守りとして大切にされているのです。大麻には、空間や生命体を賦活する力が内在しているといわれています。大麻布の瞑想着を身に纏い、静寂の「間」を過ごすことで、日本人が大事にしてきた精神性を肌で感じていただきたく思います。

The practice of using Hemp in clothing in Japan dates back to the neotholic Jomon period (14,000-300 BCE). Using hemp as a material has been deeply connected to Japanese culture since ancient times. It is said that the strong vitality of Hemp is considered to be a representation of the soul and its fibers are used as a cloth of "dwelling spirit" which possess the power to purify. In Shinto rituals, Hemp has been used for many aspects such as priest’s robe, Ōnusa, the wand used at purification ceremonies and Shimenawa which is the boundary line to separate the sacred space from this world. The origin of “Jingū Taima”, which is the amulets of representation of the sun goddess Amaterasu Ōmikami came from the distribution of hemp after being used for purification in ceremonies. Hemp has been believed to possess the power to activate space and life forms. We invite you to immerse yourself in the experience of the sense of spirituality, which Japanese have cherished for centuries, while in the ‘MA’ of stillness wearing ONOMICHIYA baja sur meditation wear.

Earth dyeing

奄美大島でおこなわれている天然の染色方法である「泥染め」。
テーチ木（車輪梅）に含まれるタンニン酸と、奄美大島の泥の中に多く含まれる鉄分が化学反応をすることで、テーチ木のピンクっぽい色から赤みがグレーになり、染め重ねることで、チャコールグレー、茶、そして黒へと変化します。ONOMICHIYA baja sur 瞑想着の「アースブラック」は30回ほどの手作業による染色工程を経て、光を吸い込むような深みのある黒に仕上がっています。奄美大島の泥田に多くの鉄が含まれていることによって生まれる、地球の色。地球のエネルギーがこもった「アースブラック/EARTH BLACK」です。天然染料である泥染めは 洗濯、紫外線や摩擦、ご着用に伴い擦れた部分が白く色落ちするなど少しずつ色が変化いたします。このような変化は天然染料を使用していることの証であり、自然な風合いの現象です。この風合いの変化を楽しみつつ、末長くご愛用していただければ幸いです。
“Dorozome” or Mud-dyeing is an all natural fabric dyeing method that can only be found in Amami Ōshima.
The pinkish color of the Te-chi tree (yeddo hawthorn tree) becomes reddish due to the chemical reaction between the tannic acid in the Te-chi tree and the iron contained in the mud of Amami Ōshima. Then, it becomes gray and by dying it repeatedly it changes to charcoal gray, brown and to black. Our meditation wear’s “Earth Black” is achieved by hand dyeing repeatedly for about 30 times to create a black, as deep, as if it absorbs light. This color of earth is created due to the rich iron minerals in the mud fields of Amami Ōshima. This EARTH BLACk is the representation of containing the energy of the earth. As mud dyeing is a natural method, its color may change little by little, due to washing, UV lights and friction and may fade over time as it is worn. Such changes are proof of the use of natural dyes and are a phenomenon of a natural material. We hope that you will continue to wear it for a long time while enjoying the change in texture.

ONOMICHIYA baja surは伯母の姑が始めた尾道屋呉服店に由来しています。
尾道屋は行商から始まり、戦後に福山市神辺町の神辺本陣のある三日市通りに呉服店を構えました。尾道出身の姑は敏腕なビジネスウーマンだったそうです。時代は変わり2代目の伯母は、呉服の他にオーダーメイドの服や既製品の洋服を扱うようになり尾道屋は「呉服店」から「ブティック」へと変わりました。2005年に伯母が亡くなり店は閉店、姪である私が尾道屋の着物の反物を譲り受けました。伯母はとてもセンスがあり残された物はいいものばかり、いつか何かの形で再利用したいと考えていたのです。
尾道屋呉服店は、ONOMICHIYA baja surとして生まれ変わり、大切にしたい生活用品やスタイルを提案していきたいと思っています。寂（さび、寂び、然びとも）の「閑寂さのなかに、奥深いものや豊かなものがおのずと感じられる美しさ」のように、身に着ける人の内面を引き出すライフスタイルのブランドです。

ONOMICHIYA baja sur is derived from the ONOMICHIYA Kimono store started by my aunt's mother-in-law.
ONOMICHIYA started as a peddler and set up a kimono shop on Mikkaichi-dori, where the Kannabe Honjin is loacated, after the war. My aunt's mother-in-law from Onomichi was an agile business woman. The times have changed and my aunt as a second-generation owner has begun to handle both custom and ready-made clothes in addition to kimonos. ONOMICHIYA has changed from a "kimono store" to a "boutique." My aunt passed away in 2005 and the store was closed and I as a niece inherited the kimono cloth of ONOMICHIYA. My aunt had exquisite taste and she left many treasures of kimono cloth. I wanted to honor the family legacy in some way.
Today, ONOMICHIYA Kimono store has been reborn as ONOMICHIYA baja sur, a lifestyle brand to propose life’s essentials and styles that are timeless and become more beautiful as they age. The concept of ONOMICHIYA baja sur is " to recognize the beauty and abundance in the simplest form through the eyes of inner-stillness". To bring to light the inner beauty of the uniqueness of individuals.
